Web and intranet content

Your website is probably your main shop window to the world.  It’s vital that the appearance and content attracts new visitors as well as encouraging existing customers to return.  Text needs to quickly get across your message and must always be accurate.  People browsing the web will judge your company on the content it contains and will make up their minds within seconds whether to stay or visit another site.

Keeping all these elements in mind when writing web pages is a complicated task, and knowing how much data to include and what can safely be left out is important.  I produce websites with copy that speaks directly to my client’s customers and prospects.  And I make careful use of keywords and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) to improve search engine rankings and listing results.

Top 5 tips – Web and intranet content

  1. Use clear and full headings that précis the page’s content
  2. Cover only one or two ideas per paragraph in short and succinct sentences
  3. Use diagrams, graphics and pictures where possible to break up text and add extra interest
  4. Provide as many means as possible for people to get in touch: email address(es), contact form, telephone and fax numbers, Skype, mobile number, postal address, etc
  5. Use links intelligently.  It’s helpful to direct people to other areas of the site where further information or explanations can be found, not so useful to direct them to partner sites in the hopes of getting referral fees
